Forests and Walks THERE are 60,000 acres (23,000 hectares) of Forestry Commission land within the North York Moors National Park. In contrast to much of the Park, this is land in public ownership and visitors are welcome to walk as they please in any area identified by the distinctive Forestry Commission signboard. Dalby Forest
The visitor centre is a great place to begin your journey of exploration within this immense forest. Located here is a Forestry Commission shop, educational meeting room, exhibition area, toilets and a restaurant in the treetops. The visitor centre also sells maps and booklets with all the information regarding walks and cycle routes. Opening hours for the Visitor Centre are 9.30am until 4.30pm, daily throughout the year.
Thornton-le-Dale is the nearest town or village. Please enjoy your forests, their peace, scenery and wildlife, while you are on holiday in the North York Moors National Park. Just one request: do not light fires of any sort in the forest and if you do spot a forest fire please dial 999 and report it to the Fire Brigade. Falling Foss Forest Walk (Maybecks Trial)
The Falling Foss Forest Walk is a pleasant day out from Whitby. The car parks at Maybecks and Falling Foss are linked by a circular, marked walk for which a leaflet is available.
